To start, here are two very different links that're both related to the bulk of this post:
(going with the Tumblr username to be safe, since I don't know for sure that linking it to the DW username is okay) proposes that the small and not-terribly-cohesive Newsflesh
fandom might band together in fannish love for the first half or so of 2014
, in honor of it being the year of the Rising. Currently the question is how much interest there might be, and I think it would be wonderful (no one is surprised *g*), so I'm signal boosting. *^^*
2) Also a signal boost: Allison Scagliotti is involved in a hopefully-Kickstarter-funded short movie called Little Gold Star
. The Kickstarter is running until the end of January. (And so we see that the trend where Scags tells the internet, "Hey, I'm hoping to do this project!" invariably results in me throwing money at it continues.)
Given that most of you are also in fandom, I'm going to trust that at least some of you periodically run into a picture of [character/actor/place/etc. you're fannish about] that you can't quite stop looking at. For me, this translates into leaving a tab open for the picture for a few days so I can glance dreamily at it if I want to.
If you've been around my journal for a while (and several of you haven't, because I'm having one of my periodic sprees of saying hello to interesting strangers, who will perhaps not stay strangers ^_^), you know that if I were allowed to cast a single actor in a single role, it would be casting Allison Scagliotti as Georgia Mason
. (The best kind of dream-casting is the kind you acquire from the author of the source material, and when you investigate the actor's work, your whole heart cries out "YES PLEASE LET IT BE THAT PERSON". [In a nutshell, that's how I got into Warehouse 13
But while I'm a tremendous fan of Scags' work in general and see plenty of pictures of her go by, some of which do remind me of exactly why I think she'd be perfect, I think one of her recent headshot photos is only the second time where my heart skips and it doesn't matter at all
that her hair/makeup/etc. don't match the role, or even that you can see her eyes, because there, right there
, to me she could be Georgia.
(And at that, I think this is the first time I've reacted so
strongly to a current or recent photo of Scags. The other one that I've apparently imprinted on is from a movie she did when she was fourteen, which I came across when writing a fic where Georgia and Shaun were fourteen. My mental image of George at that age is so
vivid, and then I found that photo that somehow matches so much of the way I see her as a young teenager, and my heart just broke.)
walked me through some code for embedding pictures, so both of those pictures are under the cut--headshot first, then the photo from nearly a decade ago.
