Akane considered herself to be a normal teenager.

Okay, she was normal as a teenager could get when one lived in a household that included a sex-changing fiancé and his father who changed into a panda when both were doused with cold water.

And maybe her idea of a good time was practicing in the dojo rather than engaging in meaningless gossip surrounding the latest movie stars out of the United States and other parts of Japan.

At least she wasn't planning for financial world domination like Nabiki.

She was mostly normal, Akane amended. She had likes and dislikes about everything, including her looks. Like most girls her age, she got up each morning, looked in the mirror and sometimes scowled at what she saw.

Should she lose a few extra pounds? No, maybe she should bulk up just a bit - to create curves like what Shampoo has.

Maybe she should grow her hair long again, like when she was trying to impress Dr. Tofu.

It all seemed so useless at times. No matter what she did or didn't do, the one person who should had been paying the most attention to her called her "uncute" and other things that a man shouldn't call his intended.

Her hands curled into fists, longed to break through the mirror that taunted her on the back of her bedroom door.

Sometimes, she caught Ranma looking at her and she saw something flicker in his eyes. She wasn't quite sure if she wanted to call it attraction or not. Whatever it was made her cheeks turn pink and she felt a bit hot. She admitted, sometimes she caught herself looking at Ranma in the same way as well. In his finest moments, he looked like he'd been kissed by the gods and given their favor.

Most of the time, Akane was convinced that he was the biggest idiot to grace the planet.

Even so, she wished that at least once, he would look over at her and actually say the words that she wanted to hear - that maybe in his eyes, just for that instance, she was cute after all.
